Download The Function Of The Chorus In T S Eliot S Murder In The Cathedral books, Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2, University of Dusseldorf "Heinrich Heine," course: T. S. Eliot, 9 entries in the bibliography, language: English, comment: Double spaced, abstract: 1935 is the year of Eliot's writing "Murder in the Cathedral," the first religious verse drama in his career as dramatist. Writing his own critical essay on "Murder in the Cathedral," Eliot focuses on a lot of topics and difficulties, writing a first drama in verse. One of the topics Eliot refers to in his essay "Poetry and Drama" is his reflection on the Women Chorus in "Murder in the Cathedral" and their dramatic function during the play. Reflecting on this topic and giving an answer to the question, if there are other functions, which can be attributed to the Chorus, will be my job in this paper. But before dealing with the actual topic, I will use this introduction, which I consider the first unit of my paper, in order to give you an overview of the units and topics of the paper.

by Cassandra Laity, Gender Desire And Sexuality In T S Eliot Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Gender Desire And Sexuality In T S Eliot books, This collection of essays brings together scholars from a wide range of critical approaches to study T. S. Eliot's engagement with desire, homoeroticism and early twentieth-century feminism in his poetry, prose and drama. Ranging from historical and formalist literary criticism to psychological and psychoanalytic theory and cultural studies, Gender, Desire and Sexuality in T. S. Eliot illuminates such topics as the influence of Eliot's mother - a poet and social reformer - on his art; the aesthetic function of physical desire; the dynamic of homosexuality in his poetry and prose; and his identification with passive or 'feminine' desire in his poetry and drama. The book also charts his reception by female critics from the early twentieth century to the present. This book should be essential reading for students of Eliot and Modernism, as well as queer theory and gender studies.

T S Eliot And Early Modern Literature PDF Full

by Steven Matthews, T S Eliot And Early Modern Literature Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download T S Eliot And Early Modern Literature books, T.S. Eliot and Early Modern Literature, for the first time, considers the full imaginative and moral engagement of one of the most influential poets of the twentieth century, T.S. Eliot, with the Early Modern period of literature in English (1580-1630). This engagement haunted Eliot's poetry and critical writing across his career, and would have a profound impact on subsequent poetry across the world, as well as upon academic literary criticism, and wider cultural perceptions. To this end, the book elucidates and contextualizes several facets of Eliot's thinking and its impact: through establishment of his original and eclectic understanding of the Early Modern period in relation to the literary and critical source materials available to him; through consideration of uncollected and archival materials, which suggest a need to reassess established readings of the poet's career; and through attention to Eliot's resonant formulations about the period in consequent literary, critical and artistic arenas. To the end of his life, Eliot had to fend off the presumption that he had, in some way, 'invented' the Early Modern period for the modern age. Yet the presumption holds some force - it is famously and influentially an implication running through Eliot's essays on that earlier period, and through his many references to its writings in his poetry, that the Early Modern period formed the most exact historical analogy for the apocalyptic events (and consequent social, cultural and literary turmoil) of the first half of the twentieth-century. T.S. Eliot and Early Modern Literature gives a comprehensive sense of the vital engagement of this self-consciously modern poet with the earlier period he always declared to be his favourite.

Extensive information about 150 full-length operas and 109 short operas is provided, with supplementary information about more than 260 other operas.
