by Corrine Glesne, Becoming Qualitative Researchers Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Becoming Qualitative Researchers books, This text offers a brief but comprehensive overview of qualitative research that balances the practicalities of conducting research with the theory and debates that keep qualitative inquiry vibrant. As faculty and students increasingly turn to qualitative inquiry, they need a text that will not only provide them with an understanding of qualitative research methods, but also open them to the diverse possibilities within this inquiry approach. This text covers the range of possibilities and includes numerous exercises that offer beginning students the opportunity to practice and refine the skills needed for qualitative research. The wealth of examples in the text is exceptional, as is the accessible and engaging writing style. New To This Edition: Suggested Readings and Exercises are added to the end of each chapter. A new Glossary of Key Terms introduces students to the meaning and use of important research terms. Chapter 1 is heavily revised to include an introduction to four research paradigms and their theoretical and philosophical underpinnings. Chapter 2 has a new section on research purposes. This change will assist students in creating their personal research foci. Chapters 3 and 4 have expanded discussions on use of internet and virtual reality sites in data collection. Chapter 3 has an expanded section on collection and use of visual data (photographs, maps, diagrams, etc.). Chapter 4 has an expanded discussion on technology for recording and transcribing interviews. This provides information on technological advances that can assist in the research process. Chapter 5 is heavily edited and revised, and now titled "Personal Dimensions: Field Relations and Reflexivity." More attention is given to feminist and poststructuralist challenges to prior conceptions of researcher-other relationships. Chapter 6 features a new ethics discussions on privacy and the internet and on representation. These discussions are intended to increase awareness of some of the ethical challenges posed by technology and by publishing. Chapter 9 is expanded to include discussions and new examples of autoethnography, ethnodrama, and poetic transcription. New examples and tables are added throughout the text. These additions assist students' understanding of accompanying discussions. What Students Are Saying: "Dr. Glesne encourages qualitative researchers to approach their data in fresh, dynamic ways, including poetic transcription and dramatic representation. These creative methods challenged me to examine my data using new perspectives, and allowed me to represent the voices of my participants more authentically."-- Bethany Rice (University of Vermont graduate student)

by Char Ullman, Graduate Students Becoming Qualitative Researchers Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Graduate Students Becoming Qualitative Researchers books, Through conducting an ethnographic study about doctoral students from traditionally underrepresented groups who are learning to conduct ethnographic research, this volume offers unique insight into the challenges and experiences through which these students develop their skills and identities as qualitative researchers. Foregrounding the stories and perspectives of students from minority backgrounds including Latinx, Black, differently abled, and queer students, Graduate Students Becoming Qualitative Researchers identifies how the process of learning to conduct ethnographic research underpins doctoral students’ success, confidence, and persistence in the academy. Chapters follow students during a one-year ethnographic research course during which they learn about ethnography, and also conduct observations, write field notes, interview participants, and gather artifacts. Offering important pedagogical insights into how ethnography and academic writing are communicated, the text also tackles questions of access and diversity within scholarship and highlights barriers to first-generation and minoritized students' success, including impostor syndrome, stereotype vulnerability, and access to time, knowledge, and capital. This volume will prove valuable to doctoral students, postgraduate researchers, scholars, and educators conducting qualitative research across the fields of education and rhetoric, as well as the humanities and social sciences. It will also appeal to those interested in multiculturalism and diversity within the education sector.

The Creative Qualitative Researcher PDF Full

by Ronald J. Pelias, The Creative Qualitative Researcher Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Creative Qualitative Researcher books, The Creative Qualitative Researcher is designed to help readers see the range of possibilities of creative scholarship. The phrase "creative qualitative researchers" points toward scholars who call upon their literary skills to evoke the emotional and intellectual complexity of their subjects; who deploy their vulnerable, relational, and reflexive selves to expose and change problematic cultural practices; and who engage their embodied ideological and ethical sensibilities as researchers. Part I introduces chapters on four qualitative methods: autoethnography, performative writing, narrative inquiry and poetic inquiry. Each of these four method chapters presents the method written in the style it features, provides writing prompts for exploring the chapter’s themes, and offers written examples of the method. Part II, divided into four chapters, aims to develop creative qualitative research skills relevant to the methods discussed in Part I. Chapter 5 discusses empathy and ethics; Chapter 6 is a primer on creative writing; Chapter 7 identifies some alternative ideas for using the words of others; and Chapter 8 focuses on collaborative improvisation to compose scholarly work. Each of the chapters in Part II includes a large number of writing exercises, prompts and strategies to assist scholars in becoming better creative researchers. By the end of the book, readers will know what creative research might entail and will have a clear understanding of the methods. Working with the various writing strategies, readers will see the potential of creative research and gain skills for its use.

Dimensions Of Choice PDF Full

by Karla A. Henderson, Dimensions Of Choice Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Dimensions Of Choice books, "Dimensions of Choice (Second Edition) is an introductory text on the philosophy, theory, methods, and techniques applied to interpretive research and qualitative approaches in parks, recreation, tourism, sport, and leisure (PRTSL). The first edition of this book appeared in 1991 at a time when one could almost count on two hands the number of leisure researchers using qualitative approaches. Applying the possibilities of a qualitative approach directly to the park, recreation, and leisure field is promising, and over the past 15 years many more researchers in PRTSL have applied these approaches. This book contains many of the basic (but rethought) premises of the first edition and is expanded to include new issues such as reflexivity, computer aids, linking and mixed methods, evaluating research reports, and other emerging forms of data collection, analysis, and data presentations. This second edition provides a framework for using qualitative data in PRTSL and is designed for anyone who is interested in examining the dimensions of choice pertaining to research conceptualization, design, and analysis including practicing professionals who might want to consider using qualitative approaches for "in-house" research and evaluation in a broad range of recreation services, such as camps, outdoor education, public parks and recreation, youth-serving agencies, sports marketing, tourism promotion, special event planning, and clinical/community therapeutic recreation settings. This text is divided into three parts: (a) the evolution of the use of qualitative approaches applied to PRTSL; (b) a discussion of the methods commonly associated with using qualitative data, including field research and in-depth interviewing, focus groups and image-based analysis; and (c) the procedures and techniques common to most qualitative approaches. Not everything about qualitative methods can be covered in any book, but in this book the reader will be exposed to a broad explanation of possibilities, will learn how choice might be applied to research and evaluation questions in the PRTSL field, and will gain an understanding and appreciation for how and why choices influence research."--Publisher's website.

Making Data In Qualitative Research PDF Full

by Laura L. Ellingson, Making Data In Qualitative Research Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Making Data In Qualitative Research books, Making Data in Qualitative Research offers a generative alternative to outdated approaches to data collection. By reimagining methods through a model of data engagement, qualitative researchers consider what is at stake—ethically, methodologically, and theoretically—when we co-create data and imagine possibilities for doing data differently. Ellingson and Sotirin draw on critical, intersectional perspectives, including feminist, poststructuralist, new materialist, and postqualitative theorizing, to refigure methodological practices of data collection for the contemporary moment. Ellingson and Sotirin’s data engagement model offers a vibrant framework through which data are made rather than found; assembled rather than collected or gathered; and becoming or dynamic rather than static. Further, pragmatism, compassion, and joy form a compelling ethical foundation for engaging with qualitative data reflecting the full range of critical, postpositivist, intepretivist, and arts-based research methods. Chapters illuminate creative possibilities for engaging fieldnotes, audio/video recordings and photographs, transcription, digital/online data, participatory data, and self-as-data. Making Data in Qualitative Research is a great resource for researchers who want to move past simplistic approaches to qualitative data collection and embrace provocative possibilities for engaging with data. Bridging abstract theorizing and pragmatic strategies for making a wide variety of data, this book will appeal to graduate (and advanced undergraduate) qualitative methods students and early career researchers, as well as to advanced scholars looking to update and expand the scope of their methods.
